Destination Dresses

por | | 0 comments

As the weather cools, I tend to daydream about destination weddings. While I won't be having one (I'm far too traditional and have to invite far too many people), I think they're wonderful getaways for both the couple and their guests. Any friend that wants to plan a destination wedding, you go right ahead. I'll be there to support you. Until then...I'll be dreaming about these oh-so-destination-worthy dresses!

Steel Drum Band-Panjive

por | | 0 comments

Steel Drum Band-Panjive

A couple months ago I shot a wedding in Long Beach and for the first time I had the pleasure of working with the steel drum band Panjive. I have shot a lot of bands over the years with very, very few worth mentioning in my opinion, but Panjive were all that and much more. All the guys in the band are super cool, friendly as can be and extremely talented. There is no doubt they set the tone for the event. Their music is fun and festive....and if you close your eyes while hearing them play you would swear Bob Marley was in the house.

On Panjive's website are some sample songs to check out, I don't think there is any singing in the samples but they definitely sing while playing and their vocals are on it!

Here is an excerpt from their website that gives a little insight on who Panjive is:

PANJIVE steel drum & Calypso Band is an intoxicating blend of Calypso, Reggae, and Contemporary music that always incorporates the unique island sounds of the "Steel Drum".

Caribbean steel drum rhythms native to Trinidad and Jamaica are fused by the band to create beautiful background steel drum music for your wedding or corporate event, or create an upbeat fun-filled show with their tropical music that never fails to excite an audience!

PANJIVE is comprised of young, professional musicians who are punctual, and friendly, offering a unique listening experience that is exciting, up-lifting, and memorable.

Regardless of the size of your event, PANJIVE can cater to your particular entertainment needs by offering everything from a "Solo" Steel Drummer to a full 5 - Piece band with vocals. So when it comes time to think "Island Music" or "Caribbean" theme, think PANJIVE!

...now go check em' out.

Life Coaching for Photographers - What Can It Do For You?

por | | 0 comments

As a photographer, have you ever wondered how having a life coach might benefit your work and home life?

Do you find yourself knowing what your want, but stop yourself from getting it?  Are you too afraid to say to yourself, never mind out loud, what you really, really want?   Then maybe life coaching is for you.  Having a life coach is like have a personal trainer for your life.

I got into coaching because my wife is a coach.  In fact, she's on the faculty of the Coaches Training Institute and the Center for Right Relationship.  As her spouse, I've taken advantage of the opportunity to take the fundamental training from both coaching schools.  It's had an enormous positive impact on my home and work life, and I can personally and whole-heartedly recommend having a coach.  Don't worry, my wife is not my coach.  I got my own.  You might benefit from having one, as well.

Here's a coaching question for you - the first of what I hope will become a weekly feature of this blog:
If money was not a concern, how would you most like to spend your time and energy?

Call me at (617) 327-9254 to schedule a free, no obligation 60-minute sample session.

Remembering Jeanne and George Shapiro

por | | 0 comments

Remembering Jeanne and George ShapiroMy mother-in-law, Jeanne Shapiro, passed away a few weeks ago. She's lived quite a few years now without her long-time husband (and father of my wife), George Shapiro. In their day, it is said, the dance floor would clear when they stepped onto it, thrilling their friends and fellow dancing pals.

I made this portrait of them about 12 years ago, when I first met them in their Florida home. I hope this image will remind many family members and friends of the love and life Jeanne and George shared together, and resonate with their presence for all time.

Title: Nefertiti ~ Queen of the Nile - Part 1 - Jeanne Crain ◊ Edmund Purdom ◊ Vincent Price

Part 1 of 9

Watch part 2 with this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG58CEPoKnA

Nefertiti ~ Queen of the Nile (1961) starring Jeanne Crain, Edmund Purdom, Vincent Price and Liana Orfei. Directed by Fernando Cerchio.

Impossibly romantic Sword & Sandal film set in Ancient Egypt with one of the best cast ever. Aside from Crain, Purdom, Price, Orfei., there are others including Raf Baldassarre and Alberto Farnese.

The screenplay oozes story-book romance, with tormented lovers set against a beautiful and turbulent exotic setting. Production values are excellent or above average from other Peplums. The costumes alone are cool. 1940s starlet Jeanne Crain stars as Nefertiti, which is sorta of odd choice but works here. I admit I've only seen one of Crain's films, State Fair, so I'm not too familiar with her career. The male lead is played by uber dashing British actor Edmund Purdom, who was one of the most prolific stars of the Peplum genre and yet he's hardly remember today. One of his first made roles was in the seldom seen Hollywood epic The Egyptian. Sadly, Edmund died this past January. RIP.

And then there's Vincent Price who is always wonderful. His presence alone makes this a must see, whether you like romances or not.

My only gripes with this film are: Crain's crazy eyebrows. Wow! And this film needs to be viewed in widescreen.

During the Peplum explosion there were too few films set in Ancient Egypt. Director Cerchio also directed the great Cleopatra's Daughter. With just these two films, Cechio basically created a mini-Peplum subgenre all by his own.

Enjoy!

Title: Alice In Chains - No Excuses (Live HD High Definition)

Alice In Chains playing No Excuses on Jimmy Kimmel Live

No Excuses (Lyrics)

It's alright
There comes a time
Got no patience to search
For peace of mind
Layin low
Want to take it slow
No more hiding or
Disguising truths Ive sold

Everyday its something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin by myself
No excuses, then I know

Its okay
Had a bad day
Hands are bruised from
Breaking rocks all day
Drained and blue
I bleed for you
You think its funny, well
Youre drowning in it too

Everyday its something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin by myself
No excuses, then I know

Yeah, its fine
Well walk down the line
Leave our rain, a cold
Trade for warm sunshine
You my friend
I will defend
And if we change, well i
Love you anyway

Everyday its something
Hits me all so cold
Find me sittin by myself
No excuses, then I know
