Steel Drum Band-Panjive

por | | 0 comments

Steel Drum Band-Panjive

A couple months ago I shot a wedding in Long Beach and for the first time I had the pleasure of working with the steel drum band Panjive. I have shot a lot of bands over the years with very, very few worth mentioning in my opinion, but Panjive were all that and much more. All the guys in the band are super cool, friendly as can be and extremely talented. There is no doubt they set the tone for the event. Their music is fun and festive....and if you close your eyes while hearing them play you would swear Bob Marley was in the house.

On Panjive's website are some sample songs to check out, I don't think there is any singing in the samples but they definitely sing while playing and their vocals are on it!

Here is an excerpt from their website that gives a little insight on who Panjive is:

PANJIVE steel drum & Calypso Band is an intoxicating blend of Calypso, Reggae, and Contemporary music that always incorporates the unique island sounds of the "Steel Drum".

Caribbean steel drum rhythms native to Trinidad and Jamaica are fused by the band to create beautiful background steel drum music for your wedding or corporate event, or create an upbeat fun-filled show with their tropical music that never fails to excite an audience!

PANJIVE is comprised of young, professional musicians who are punctual, and friendly, offering a unique listening experience that is exciting, up-lifting, and memorable.

Regardless of the size of your event, PANJIVE can cater to your particular entertainment needs by offering everything from a "Solo" Steel Drummer to a full 5 - Piece band with vocals. So when it comes time to think "Island Music" or "Caribbean" theme, think PANJIVE!

...now go check em' out.

Title: Grace Kelly: A Life In Pictures

This is a photo compilation of Grace Kelly. These are not all of her photographs because she has hundreds of them. The photos featured in this video are among the most famous portraits and well-known candid. You might find your most favourite photo of Grace Kelly among this bunch. Although, I have to say, Grace being photogenic alike other Hollywood starlets doesn't really make it easy narrowing down to these photos ;) My most favourite photo of hers is the last picture at the end of this video. Rest In Peace, Her Serene Highness, Princess Grace P. Kelly of Monaco.

Grace Patricia Kelly was born on November 12th 1929. (coincidentally on the same year, another iconic figure was born too) She was born into wealth where her father, John Kelly was a self made millionaire and an Olympic champion. John Kelly was Irish and Margaret Kelly, Grace's mother, was German. Grace had three other siblings, Peggy, Kell and Lizanne. She was known to be mostly close with her brother Kell (John Kelly Jr.) Often called Gracie, she was not as athletic as her other siblings. Something her parents found to be a dismay. When she attended Ravenhill Academy, Grace blossomed from a shy girl to a warm and friendly person. She became popular among friends for her attributes. Later on, she attended Stevens School and attained the status she had at her old school.

*Her graduation yearbook listed her favorite actress as Ingrid Bergman; her favorite actor, Joseph Cotten; her favorite summer resort, Ocean City; her favorite drink, a black and white chocolate milkshake; her favorite piece of classical music, Debussy's "Clair de Lune"; her favorite orchestra, Benny Goodman; and her favorite female singer, Jo Stafford. Written in the "Stevens' Prophecy" section was, Miss Grace P. Kelly - a famous star of stage and screen.*

After graduating, she pursued her acting career in New York. She studied at the renowned American Academy of Dramatic Arts. They pointed out only on one thing, her Philly Slang must be work upon. Grace developed a rather one-of-a-kind accent that centers between an American debutante and a British schoolgirl. Her graduation performance was of The Philadelphia Story.

^LIZANNE LE VINE: We argued and we fought. And -- well, I mean, like sisters would. And one time, I locked her in a closet, and I didn't tell anybody about it for a long, long time. And mother finally asked...

KING: Many little sisters have wanted to do that.

LIZANNE LE VINE: Yes. And I said it was such a relief. But you know what? It wasn't such a good thing anyway because she had so much fun in that closet.

(LAUGHTER)

LIZANNE LE VINE: Well, she found a book and she found some jacks and she -- and she just didn't want to come out!^

Title: Behind the scenes #6 - Strobist portraits at sunset on water with Lastolite EzyBox Hotshoe

This short clip shows a strobist portrait photoshoot that I did last summer for a newspaper. I photographed the german politician Thomas Iseke short after sunset on the Lake Steinhude and used only one Lastolite EzyBox 60x60cm (24x24") with a SB-800, triggered with the CLS in iTTL-mode by one SB-800 on-camera.

Used equipment:

Nikon D3
14-24mm
2x SB-800
Lastolite EzyBox Hotshoe

Staind Outside

And you,
Can bring me to my knees
Again
All the times
That I could beg you please
In vain
All the times
That I felt insecure
For you
And I leave
My burdens at the door

But I'm on the outside
And I'm looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly
You're ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

All the times
That I felt like this won't end
It's for you
And I taste
What I could never have
It was from you
All the times
That I cried
My intentions
Were full of pride
All I waste
More time than anyone

But I'm on the outside
And I'm looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly
You're ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

All the times
That I've cried
All this wasted
It's all inside
And I feel
All this pain
Stuffed it down
It's back again
And I lie
Here in bed
All alone
I can't mend
But I feel
Tomorrow will be okay

But I'm on the outside
And I'm looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly
You're ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

What I like...Ribboned Mirrors

por | | 0 comments

What I like...Ribboned MirrorsWhile browsing Poppy Talk I saw these one-of-a-kind mirrors created by Ashley Rush of Rowan's Room. Each one is lovingly handcrafted from an antique cabinet door (which makes this an eco-friendly item). Most of these doors are over 100 years old, and they reflect those years through their unique beauty.

What I like...Ribboned Mirrors Here's an idea of how to display these unique mirrors.

Title: Pretty Pink Ribbon

Band: Cake
Album: Comfort Eagle
Song: Pretty Pink Ribbon
Lyrics: Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd float down to the sea

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd say just what you pleased
Without the sticky little kitten
Your ticket could never be free

Without your tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancer would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd burn all these dying leaves

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You would lift this steaming herd
You would kill all the sick ones
You would bury them deep in the earth

Without the tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancer would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Traditions - Japanese Sake Sharing

por | | 0 comments

Traditions - Japanese Sake SharingImage Via sarahpostma.com

A traditional custom in Japan, and among many Japanese Americans include the “san-san-kudo” sake sharing tradition, which translates to “three sets of three sips equal nine.” Three is an indivisible number, and it is considered a sacred number in Buddhism.

Traditions - Japanese Sake SharingImage Via The Knot

The groom starts with the smallest of three cups and takes three sips from the cup and then the bride follows. After the groom proceeds with the middle size cup taking again three sips and then goes to the large cup, and the bride follows the same system. At the end of the sharing of sake toast ceremony the families of both bride and groom drink a cup of sake to signify not only the union of bride and groom but also the unity of two families.
