Yesterday I shared the DIY invitations my friend, Jannah, designed for her sister-in-law. Today I'm sharing the cake. It will absolutely blow your mind. The sweet couple's (Amanda and Raul) friend made it as a gift to them. The bride's mother had the spectacular cake stand created. The detail is incredible and it completely embodies the feel of the day. The very top cake with the lovebirds is the couple's anniversary cake they will celebrate with a year from now. Hands down, my favorite part is the gorgeous, large purple flowers. I even managed to sneak in a picture of the bride and groom.
Congratulations Amanda and Raul! And Happy planning to all the brides-to-be!
Who doesn't love dessert and pretty cakes. My mind is always going back to the food (that may be as a result of my own personal love affair with yummy bites). I really think if you feed your guests they'll all walk away happy...even if your creepy uncle hit on all your college girlfriends! Check out these beautiful cakes for inspiration, and never forget that pretty cakes also need to taste great. Be watching for more bakery tips in the near future.
This cake is from Frosted Pumpkin. Don't you just love the name? If you're in the ATL or NYC area, check out their gallery of wedding cakes! (Frosted Pumpkin via SMP)
As far as big league wedding blogs go, Ruffled is one of my all-time favorites. As Korie Lynn pointed out, I cited it as one of the major inspirations for the bridal shower I threw for my sis-in-law, Amanda. (I snagged those cupcake pennants from the Ruffled's DIY free downloads!) I don't know how I missed it, but Ruffled has done it again with their latest innovation, a wedding recycling marketplace where brides can buy and sell each other's decor. Get this, the listings are free! (Isn't that a bride's favorite word?) It's like classy Craigslist exclusively for weddings. I simply love the "green" concept of re-using perfectly good items that might otherwise just be filling space in an attic. And the chance to save (or make) a buck is always welcome. So, if you're in the midst of planning your affair, hop on over to Ruffled's Recycling tab and check out what recent brides are selling that may be a lovely addition to your decor. And who knows? Maybe in a few months, you'll be passing on your a few things to a like-minded bride-to-be. Some highlights are below. (Pardon the pixelated pics, svp!)

Here's a great way to display vintage family photos. Follow these few easy steps from Yankee Magazine. You'll need:glass bottle or jarglass cleanerphotocopy of a photograph or printscissorstwo wooden skewers
1. Choose an attractive glass bottle or jar, whether new or antique (the larger the neck or the mouth the better). Clean it and dry it thoroughly. (Polident denture solution works great for getting old glassware clean.) 2. Make a color or black-and-white photocopy of your picture on regular copier paper. The copy should be small enough (in length and width) to fit unrolled inside the glass container. Trim excess paper if necessary. 3. Wrap the photocopy, blank side showing, around one of the wooden skewers and roll it into a tight cylinder. 4. Slide the photocopy cylinder off the skewer and slip it, right side up, through the bottle's neck (or the jar's mouth). 5. Insert both skewers down through the neck (or mouth). 6. Working from the blank side (to avoid damaging the print), use the skewers to unroll the cylinder until it's flat inside the bottle or jar. Pressing toward the front of the container from the back of the photocopy works best. 7. Leave the top of your bottle or jar open if you like, or finish with a cork or clean metal cap.
